Grand Canyon Books: Trail Guides

Best Easy Day Hikes
Grand Canyon
This is another fine trail guide written by Ron Adkison.
This trail guide books' size makes it convenient to carry in your daypack, purse, or even pants pocket.

Due to the topography of Grand Canyon National Park, easy day hikes are in the minority, and can be a challenge to find.  However, the author does find them. Mr. Adkison divides the trails into two categories: 1) North vs. South Rim Hikes; and 2) plateau-top (read level) hikes vs. hikes below the rim.  All of the hikes are excellent, but I would contend that the only truly easy hikes in Grand Canyon are the level ones.

This book is a fine choice for anyone having from a few hours to a few days to spend in Grand Canyon; who wants to hike to and through some remarkable scenery, but doesn't want to spend all day doing it.

This is the newly revised 2006 edition.

 Grand Canyon
                             National Park

Ron Adkison has put together another fine trail guide book.  This book covers twenty eight of Grand Canyon National Park's best trails - from hikes that are appropriate for novices and children to long-distance backpacks...and everything in-between.  Hiking the Grand Canyon is  a different endeavor from hiking just about anywhere else.  It may be cool on the rim (where you start your hike) but hot as blazes in the Canyon; the beginning of your hike is downhill...then, when you're ready to turn around and are likely already somewhat tired you have to hike UP.  Critical information on water sources, elevation profiles and trail condition, approximate hiking times, etc. is included for each covered trail.  The trail descriptions and general advice help prepare the Grand Canyon hiker for what to expect, contributing greatly to an enjoyable hiking experience.

There are also chapters on: Grand Canyon Geology; Vegetation; Leave No Trace (especially important in as delicate a place as the Grand Canyon); Planning the Trip, and so on.
